The basics

What Is a Custom Balloon Installation?

Anything that hangs overhead, stretches across a room, forms a shape or shows off a brand falls into this category.

A custom balloon installation is balloon decor designed for one particular space and built on location, usually bigger or more structural than an arch, garland or column. Picture a balloon ceiling over the dance floor, a cloud floating above the sweetheart table, a 30 ft entrance arch for a store opening, a giant mosaic number, a walk-through tunnel or a sculpture of a logo. This is where balloon decor turns into balloon art.

Because each one is designed for a single room, an installation starts with a tape measure and a sketch, not a price list. Choose one when the room is large, the event is high-profile or you want guests to see something new. For standard pieces, see balloon arches, garlands, walls, columns and backdrops.

What we install

Types of Custom Balloon Installations

These are the installations Miami venues, brands and hosts ask about most.

Balloon ceilings

A balloon ceiling fills the space overhead, with helium balloons floating against the ceiling and ribbons trailing down, air-filled balloons hung upside down at staggered heights, or garlands swagged from wall to wall. It turns a plain banquet hall or school gym into an event space and is a staple at quinceañeras, proms, weddings and holiday parties.

Hanging balloons, canopies and chandeliers

Overhead garlands above a long table, a canopy stretched across a dance floor or tent, and balloons wrapped around a chandelier (or a chandelier made from balloons on a hoop) lift the decor to eye level and higher while leaving the floor free.

Balloon clouds

Think of a cloud as a puffy, weightless-looking cluster of white and clear balloons, sometimes with a touch of pastel or metallic, suspended over a table or set behind it as a backdrop. Baby showers, cloud-nine birthdays and airy wedding designs are where clouds usually appear.

Balloon drops

A balloon drop lets hundreds of balloons fall from a net or bag overhead at a planned moment: the New Year's Eve countdown, a gender reveal, a grand entrance, a send-off or a product launch. The drop is rigged before guests arrive and released with a pull cord at the right second. Because everything falls indoors and gets collected afterward, it's also the party-friendly alternative now that balloon releases are illegal in Florida.

Balloon sculptures and balloon art

Large balloon sculptures take a recognizable shape: a giant number, a flamingo, a pineapple, a cake, a mascot or a logo. For galleries, schools and brand activations, balloon art can be built life-size or larger.

Balloon trees, palm trees and topiaries

Balloon palm trees for luaus and pool parties, topiaries for formal events and balloon Christmas trees for holiday lobbies and office parties all stand on their own, like balloon columns with a shape on top.

Balloon tunnels

A tunnel is a row of arches set close together that guests walk through. It makes a memorable entrance for a wedding, a quinceañera court, a school walkway, a 5K finish line or a store opening.

Balloon mosaics, number towers and marquee letters

A mosaic fills a number, letter or shape frame with small balloons, like a picture made of pixels. Mosaic numbers and letters spell out an age, an initial or a class year, and marquee letters wrapped in balloons add light. They're a favorite for birthdays, quinces and graduations.

Balloon wreaths and giant balloons

Wreaths frame a front door or a sign. Giant balloons, 36 inches and up and sometimes filled with confetti, create big moments for gender reveals, proposals and photo shoots.

Brands and businesses

Process

How a Custom Installation Comes Together

Larger builds take a little more planning. Here's the process from first message to strike.

  1. 1

    Brief

Tell us the event, date, venue and the idea. Photos, mood boards and brand guidelines all help.

  2. 2

    Site details

We confirm room size, ceiling height, rigging points, power, loading-dock or service-elevator access and venue rules, in person or from photos and measurements.

  3. 3

    Design and quote

You receive a design plan and a written quote. Large installs are priced by scope, not by the foot.

  4. 4

    Build day

We load in during the venue's window, build on-site and walk the space with you before doors open.

  5. 5

    Strike

We take everything down at the end of the night or the next morning, whichever the venue requires.

Venue rules worth asking about early: many Miami hotels, condo associations and event venues set load-in and strike windows, require a vendor certificate of insurance, assign freight or service elevators by reservation, limit helium tanks, ban tape on walls and need approval before anything hangs from the ceiling. On Miami Beach, party balloons aren't allowed in city parks, on city beaches or at public marinas at all. We check these details before we quote, so build day goes smoothly.

Large installs are quoted after we measure the space. Venue load-in requirements and late-night strikes can add to the total.

How much do people charge for balloon decor at this scale? The total depends on the square footage or length covered, balloon count and size, rigging and lift needs (ceiling height matters), helium, labor hours, overnight or after-hours load-in, venue insurance requirements and same-night teardown. Send your venue and ceiling height and we'll scope it properly.

Timing

When to Book a Balloon Installation

Give large installations three to six weeks.

A mosaic number or a balloon drop for a party at home can usually be booked a week or two ahead. Bigger builds (ceilings, tunnels, sculptures) and anything inside a hotel or event venue need three to six weeks to cover the design, the venue's approval and ordering custom balloons. The first dates to go are December weekends, New Year's Eve, prom season in spring, graduation weeks in late May and June, and Saturdays during the November-to-April event season.

Questions

Custom Balloon Installations in Miami: FAQ

How much do balloon installations cost?

Our custom balloon installations start at $450. Mosaic numbers start at $225 and marquee letters at $65 each. Ceilings, drops, tunnels and sculptures are quoted per project, based on size, rigging and labor.

Can I do a balloon release in Florida?

No. Since July 1, 2024, Florida law treats intentionally releasing balloons as littering, with a fine for each violation, and Miami Beach also bans party balloons in city parks, on city beaches and at public marinas. An indoor balloon drop, a giant confetti balloon pop or simply keeping the arch are good alternatives.

What is a balloon ceiling?

It's balloon decor that fills the space above the guests: helium balloons resting against the ceiling with ribbons dangling, air-filled balloons hung on lines at staggered heights, or garlands draped from one side of the room to the other.

What is a balloon drop?

A balloon drop lets hundreds of balloons fall from a net or bag overhead at a planned moment, such as the New Year's countdown, a gender reveal, a grand entrance or a send-off.

How many balloons go into a balloon drop?

Roughly 100–250 for a living room or small space, and anywhere from 500 to 1,500+ over a ballroom dance floor. The size of the drop zone and the ceiling height set the number.

What is a balloon mosaic?

A number, letter or shape frame filled with small balloons in a pattern, like a picture made of pixels. Mosaic numbers and letters are popular for birthdays, quinceañeras, graduations and anniversaries.

How long do ceiling balloons last?

Helium balloons on a ceiling stay at their best for roughly 8 to 12 hours, while air-filled pieces hung from lines keep their shape for several days indoors.

How far ahead should I book a balloon installation?

Allow three to six weeks for venue installs, ceilings, tunnels and sculptures. A mosaic number or a home balloon drop usually needs just one to two weeks.

Do Miami venues allow balloon installations?

Most do, with conditions. Hotels, condo buildings and event venues commonly ask for a vendor insurance certificate, set load-in and strike times, and may limit helium, tape and ceiling rigging. We confirm the rules before quoting.
